One day a mom was driving her daughter around to run some errands for her daughters birthday party.
The little girls grandma could not make the party so she gave her birthday card to her mom and told her that she put a $100 bill in the card, but for her to keep it a surprise until the little girl opened it at her birthday party later that night.
On the way home the little girls mom wanted to stop in the drive through and pick up something to eat for her and her daughter because the birthday party was a few hours away.
The mom had no cash and asked her daughter for the $10 that she gave to her for her allowance that morning.
The mom told her daughter that she would give it back as soon as she got home.
The little girl did not want to give the money up because $10 was all she had at the moment, and it seemed like a lot to her.
The mom knew that her daughter had a birthday card with $100 waiting for her when she got home, and she was going to give her the $10 back, but the little girl couldnt see beyond what was in front of her at the moment.
The girl said she wasnt hungry and was saving up for her birthday cake.
She made every excuse to not let go of what was in her hand.
The mom tried to convince her daughter that if she gave up what was in her hand that she would get it back. The daughter reluctantly gave her mom the $10.
When they got home the daughter opened her birthday card and saw her $100 from her grandma and was pumped to get back her $10 plus the extra $100.
The moral of this story is that we tend to hold tightly on to things that are right in front of us, our $10 bill could be a job, relationship, dream..others..
God promises that if we give up the things hes asking us to give up that we will get 10 fold in return.
However God can not act until we release whats in our hand (whatever that may be in your life at the moment) and as soon as we do, he will unlock bigger and better things, way more than we could ever imagine. (Ephesians 3:20)
I was pumped after reading it during devotion and thought id share it....life happens and things come up..sometimes we think that what we are holding on to in life is as good as it will get, but when you release it to God and give up your plans...your ideas..and your way of how "life" should go...when we give up control and stop trying to do Gods job, thats when hes able to move in our lives...and thats when we'll see his plan and his will done in our life..after all Hes God and knows whats best and what will work and what will not..so why not do it his way....in the end you'll see that it was worth it..but you dont get to see the outcome until you choose to take that step and give up whats in your hand.
